Gustav Now Approaching Louisiana Coastline

Hurricane Gustav is now approaching landfall this morning, sitting about 80 miles to the south-southwest of New Orleans. It should make landfall within the next few hours, bringing 18-20 feet wave heights, hurricane force winds, and isolated tornadoes to southern Louisiana. This is the visible satellite view showing just how broad of a system this storm is.

Although we have lots of sunshine out there this morning, look for those clouds to be on the increase as we head through the late morning and early afternoon hours. The outer rain bands from Gustav should begin to move into our eastern counties by later on this afternoon, beginning what will be a very wet and windy period.
